A musician first, Dale Clevenger describes himself as "a musician who plays the horn rather than a horn player who plays music." For a world-class soloist and pricipal orchestral player, conducting was the next step.
He became interested in conducting while playing in the American Orchestra League's Conductor's Workshop. He was nineteen and absorbed everything he could. While with the Chicago Symphony, he still absorbed the techniques of conducting - from many of the world's finest conductors directing the Chicago Symphony.

In the early 1980's he
served as music director of the
Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra for fourteen years. His conducting
career has included guest appearances with numerous other
orchestras, including the
New Japan Philharmonic, the
Shanghai
Symphony Orchestra, the
Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Roosevelt
University Symphony Orchestra, the
Toronto Conservatory Orchestra,
the Northwestern University Summer Symphony, the
Western Australia
Symphony Orchestra,
the
Osaka Philharmonic, the National
Philharmonic of Slovakia in Bratislava, the Sinfonia Crakovia and
the
Opole Philharmonic
in Poland, and the Bartlesville (Oklahoma)
Symphony Orchestra.
